News from Quotient Bio Analytical Sciences
No, not the latest cinematic instalment of the Marvel comic superhero, but 3 hardy souls from Quotient Bio Analytical Sciences, a business recently acquired by LGC Ltd who will be competing in Ironman UK on 4th August 2013.
Dr Steve Pleasance (MD), Dr Michael van der Merwe (Business Development) and Simon Hemmings (Finance), who are based at the Fordham, Cambridgeshire site, are already training hard for the endurance triathlon, which begins with a 2.4 mile open water swim, followed by a 112 mile cycle and ends with a full 26.2 mile marathon.
At four times the length of the standard distance triathlon of the 2012 Olympic Games, in which the Brownlee brothers took Gold and Bronze for GB, there is a strict 17 hour cut off for completing the Ironman event.
While competing against each other, albeit in different age categories, the team are united and proud to be raising money for Cancer Research UK and have a fundraising target of £5000 – all money raised will go straight to the charity.
In addition to the punishing weekly training schedule, which will ramp up to in excess of 25 hours a week in June, they will be also be taking part in a number of running, cycling and swimming events over the next few months including:
